My Dad, Sheikh Muhammad Niaz Ahmad, (1947—2011), an advocate by profession, departed from this mortal world, on 20 October 2011, leaving all his progeny, relatives and friends sad to bear and mourn the irreparable loss (ILWIIR). May his soul rest in eternal peace
“Raat din zair zameen loog chalay jatay hain
Nahin maaloom tah-e-khak tamasha kia hai
My Dad was born on 6th Jan.1947, in a zamindar family, did his school education in Islamia High School DG khan and his graduation from Government College DG Khan. He was not born to be a bookworm or a student burning midnight oil. Although he completed his graduation with ease as a good student, he was not an Honor board hitter. He was designed to be a different individual, gifted with many qualities of head and heart which made him an enviable and a lovable personality
He was an incarnation of love, affection, sincerity and empathy. He was a courageous and a lion-hearted person, a personable figure and a friend of friends. In brief a beautiful personality both physically and spiritually. There was no contradiction in his “(zahir and batin)”
"Inner and outer"
“ Bhoolain agar tujhay tu kidhar jaaeen kia Karin
Har rehguzar peh teray guzrnay ka husn hai”
After his graduation, he joined Wapda for about three years. Thereafter he did his law from government Law College Lahore in 1974. He worked as labor officer/ purchase officer in Packages Limited Lahore for some period, before joining DG khan bar as legal practitioner.
As legal practitioner he started his career under the guidance of Sh. Masood Ahmad advocate, a senior and leading lawyer of DG Khan bar. This friendship and bond of mutual respect continued for whole of his life. Sh Masood Sahib was very helpful and kind to him and their friendship could be quoted as an enviable example for all times to come.
As a legal practitioner he earned a good reputation. Had many famous cases to his credit. He was very popular with the legal fraternity of DG Khan. On account of his popularity and with the cooperation of his colleagues and support of his seniors, he made it five times to the office of General Secretary of the DG Khan bar. A rare feat of course—possible only with the active support of his fraternity and its confidence in him.
While in office as General Secretary of the bar, he made lot of contribution in raising the status of bar, maintaining better relations between bar and bench, besides cordial relations with local administration. He worked hard to enhance the bar members respect and image in the eyes of general public, civil society, bench and local administration. I hope, he would long be remembered for his contribution in this respect, It was his favorite field and it could be said about him;
“jaan kar minjumla-e-khasan-e- maikhana mujhay
Muddatun roya karaingay jam-o-paimana mujhay
Being in legal profession and as a small landholder, he always extended all genuine help to the rural poor for solving their problems with police. local administration besides resolving their local differences, selflessly.
To describe a few of his qualities, he was a lover of music and art. He himself was a good singer. One could enjoy his singing. He understood the niceties and intricacies of music. An ardent fan of Muhammad Rafi Khan, Latta Mangeshkar and Nur Jahan and Naushad. Dilip Kumar being his most favorite Artist.
He was a person full of life. Barring last few months of his life, he lived every day to the fullest. He was a champion of brisk and long walk. Fewer could think of competing him in this respect. He was a jolly person in the positive sense of the word. His mind a big store of jokes, anecdotes and quick/ ready made replies. He could take jokes and he could cut jokes. Even his victims would enjoy his jokes.
.
He was an appreciator of good poetry. He remembered many ghazals and nazms by heart besides lot of verses, which he could reproduce during his conversation at, will and at most appropriate occasion.
He was a lover of sports. Himself a footballer, he took lot of interest in sports’ activities. He worked as chairman Cricket Association DG Khan and also held various positions in Football and Basketball Association of DG Khan. His contribution in promoting these games and sports in general are well recognized
He was a silent social worker. He would help the afflicted poor of the society, using his clout with bar, bench, local administration and civil society to alleviate their sufferings, as far as within his reach. Would himself help the poor financially without making it known to any one, in a silent manner. Shunned publicity in this respect
He was a courageous and dauntless person. Always prepared to face odds in manly manner. Fear was unknown to him. He was prepared to combat the oppressor and standby the oppressed fearlessly unconcerned about the consequences.
He had a few very close friends like Sh Masood Ahmad Advocate DG Khan, Muhammad Akmal Income Tax practitioner of Lhr, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad of DG Khan, presently in Saudi Arabia , M Anwar Qureshi advocate DG Khan ,Mr. Jabbar Qureshi of Lhr and late Mr. Abbas Ali Khan Lund of DG khan. His friendship with them was un-abounding and lasted till end
As far politics was concerned, he tried to remain on backbenches. He believed in “Wafa dari ba shart-e-ustawari”. He never used politics for personal gain and always remained loyal to his political party.
As a father he was very loving, caring and where necessary a bit strict as well. So was he as a family head. He commanded lot of respect in family and with all his family members. All his family members remember him through the following verse;
“ Phir bhi kum tha gar cheh teri zaat sey paya bahut
Tu huwa rukhsat tu dil ku yeh khayal aya bahut”
Now that he has left this mortal world I pray for his forgiveness and request his friends, well wishers and acquaintances to pray for him so that his soul rests in eternal peace. Ameen—Summa Ameen. “ Aasman un ki lahad peh shabnam afshani karay”
“Ub zameen ka piar baaqi hai faqat
Aasman ki meharbani daikh lee
